Bertus Basson is launching a new restaurant, BLOEM, at Paul Clüver Family Wines in Elgin, officially opening on 22 October 2024.
Known for his exceptional culinary vision, Basson has partnered with chef Carla Burger, who will manage BLOEM as a business partner. As a talented chef with over six years of experience, Carla will bring her passion for seasonal, produce-driven cuisine and her flair for desserts as a skilled pastry chef to BLOEM to curate a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
Carla has worked at high-profile restaurants like Overture, Eike, Spek & Bone, and CHORUS, where she honed her skills in both cooking and restaurant management.
BLOEM’s name is inspired by the farm’s blossoming fruit orchards, with the apple blossom incorporated into its logo.
“The name pays homage to the farm’s blossoms, symbolizing new beginnings,” explains Basson. Guests can look forward to wholesome breakfast options and shared lunch plates, all crafted with fresh, local ingredients. A children’s play area ensures a family-friendly atmosphere, perfect for long, leisurely meals in a unique countryside setting.
BLOEM will operate from Tuesday to Saturday for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant promises a carefully curated wine list featuring Paul Clüver’s full range of wines, along with selections from other Elgin wine producers, making it a destination for both food and wine lovers. Basson expresses excitement about the long-anticipated project, calling it a “surreal” moment to share the official opening date.
