Kanu Wines Unveils New Wine-Tasting Experience

Nestled in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, Kanu Wines has unveiled a new way for visitors to experience its award-winning wines. The estate has introduced six new fully furnished, intimate booths in its underground barrel cellar — each complete with unique décor and new lighting that transforms the space into a castle-like haven of warmth, seclusion, and storytelling.

A Booth for Every Cultivar

The new booths are named after Kanu’s favourite cultivars: Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and a nod to their MCC (Méthode Cap Classique). Each offers guests the opportunity to feel immersed in the wine they are tasting, with personalised facts about the grape’s history and its place in South Africa’s winemaking heritage. Designed to blend mystery with intimacy, the booths invite visitors to slow down, savour each pour, and create unforgettable memories.

Guided by Passion

The experience is led by Cobus Germishuys, Kanu’s celebrated Tasting Room Manager and widely regarded as Stellenbosch’s “Wine Angel.” With his passion for wine and storytelling, Germishuys ensures every tasting is more than just a sip — it is an encounter with culture, tradition, and the artistry of winemaking.

Beyond the Cellar

Kanu Wines offers much more than its new cellar booths. Visitors can enjoy the estate’s Du Vin restaurant, a Japanese-inspired izakaya-style eatery that also features South Africa’s first dedicated sushi-and-wine pairing. Families are welcomed with activities such as bass fishing and a putt-putt course, making the estate an accessible, multi-layered destination for all.

A Journey from Light to Depth

Kanu Wines

Kanu’s tasting hours are 09:00–16:00, Wednesday to Sunday (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Begin in the light-filled tasting room upstairs, where the welcome is warm and unhurried, then descend the stairs to the new cellar booths for an intimate finale. By investing in distinctive design and deeper storytelling, Kanu Wines is creating fresh opportunities for cultural connection, culinary tourism, and memorable shared moments — all in the place where Stellenbosch’s heritage meets innovation.
