Get ready for the 34th Trans Agulhas Inflatable Boat Challenge 2022

The Trans Agulhas Challenge is the ‘World’s Toughest Inflatable Boat Challenge’ which begins annually on 28 December in Plettenberg Bay.

The Trans Agulhas is a fast-paced, action-packed water sports event. Over 30 inflatable boats will battle it out on the waves in the most prestigious Inflatable Boat Racing competition in the world!

This 4-day race will visit beaches along the coast between Natures Valley and Gordon’s Bay, where the race will finish.

Day 1: The challenge starts at Hobie Beach and heads towards Natures Valley for the 1st check point and then backtracks to the 2nd check point at Plettenberg Bay’s main beach and then onto a checkpoint at Brenton on Sea, passing Knysna on the seaward side of the Knysna Heads. After that it’s on to beach checkpoints at Swartvlei and Wilderness, then on to check points at Glentana, Groot Brak River, Klein Brak River. After Klein Brak River the boats need to stay on the land side of the seal island (passing between island and Diaz beach) and on to the finish at Santos Beach.

Day 2: Start at Santos beach, Mossel Bay with a check point at Vleesbaai, a beach check point at Gouritz River Mouth with the finish-line at Still Bay main beach.

Day 3: Start at Still Bay main beach, a beach check point at Witsand, a beach check point at Arniston/Waenhuiskrans and finish at Struisbaai Nostra.

Day 4:  On 31 December, the final day of the Trans Agulhas Challenge the race will start at Struisbaai Main Beach, beach checkpoints at Die Damme, Pearly Beach and onto the midway finish at Uilenkraalsmond. Thirty minutes after the last boat arrived at Uilenkraalsmond the boats re-start and continue to flyby check point at Gansbaai Harbour. From Gansbaai Harbour, head towards Hermanus Old Harbour fly by NSRI boat, beach check point at Hawston beach, Kleinmond fly by NSRI boat, beach check point at Pringle Bay.

The boats will continue to Strand beach to finish the challenge under the SIX GUN GRILL arch on the beach.
