Benguela Cove’s Eco-Tourism Experiences

Benguela Cove

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, ranked #53 among the World’s Top 100 Vineyards, features eco-tourism experiences that showcase the estate’s commitment to conservation and world-class wine production.

The new Guided Nature Walk and Wine Tasting and the Vineyard Safari offer visitors unique opportunities to explore the estate’s rich biodiversity, while indulging in some of the best South African wines.

Led by experienced environmental educator Louine Boothway, the Guided Nature Walk and Wine Tasting experience takes place from Wednesday to Sunday, booked at least 48 hours in advance.

This two-hour journey through Benguela Cove’s 200-hectare estate allows visitors to immerse themselves in the UNESCO-designated Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Penny Streeter OBE, owner of Benguela Cove, says: “The guided walk is an opportunity for guests to connect with the unique fynbos ecosystem, learn about our conservation efforts, and understand how our award-winning wines are produced in harmony with nature. Visitors can observe over 100 bird species that call Benguela Cove home, including majestic Blue Cranes, Fish Eagles, and the near-threatened African Black Oystercatcher.”

The walk concludes with a wine-tasting session in the estate’s dedicated tasting room, where guests can sample Benguela Cove’s acclaimed wines.

Vineyard Safari and Wine Tasting – The Hermanus wine farm also offers a unique Vineyard Safari and Wine Tasting. This tour takes place along the Walker Bay wine route, showcasing the estate’s 2.6 km stretch of ocean-facing vineyards.

The safari culminates in a tasting of five estate-grown wines amidst the vines, offering a true “vineyard to glass” experience.

Luxury Accommodation and Dining – For those wishing to extend their visit, Benguela Cove offers luxury self-catering villa accommodation within its secure residential area. Each villa features en suite bedrooms, a private pool, WiFi, and inverters, providing a perfect blend of comfort and eco-conscious living. Visitors can also indulge in culinary treats at the estate’s Moody Lagoon Restaurant, where Executive Chef Annie Badenhorst creates exquisite dishes that pair perfectly with Benguela Cove’s wines. The restaurant sources ingredients locally, including sustainably caught fish through the ABALOBI Fish With A Story initiative.

A Commitment to Conservation – As a WWF Conservation Champion, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate demonstrates that luxury hospitality and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.

The estate’s dedication to preserving its unique ecosystem, which includes rare and threatened flora such as the critically endangered renosterveld and Elim ferricrete fynbos, sets a new standard for eco-tourism in the region.

New Season of Events and Entertainment – Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate unveils a fresh calendar of events celebrating South African wine, food, and culture. This Hermanus estate promises a diverse range of activities throughout Spring.
