Benguela Cove

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is hosting a series of events showcasing the best of South African wine, cuisine, and culture. Located on the picturesque Hermanus Wine Route, the award-winning estate invites visitors to experience its charm through a range of activities through August and September.

Penny Streeter OBE, owner of Benguela Cove, comments: “We’re thrilled to present this exciting lineup of events that capture the essence of Benguela Cove. From our Women’s Day celebration to the Heritage Day feast, each event showcases our award-winning wines, stunning location, and commitment to creating unforgettable experiences.”

The event calendar kicks off with a double celebration on August 9th. The Women’s Day Tea offers an elegant afternoon experience for R750 per pair. Guests can indulge in a selection of exquisite teas, finger sandwiches, pastries, and cakes and enjoy complimentary boat trips on the Lady Bonnie (weather permitting). Running concurrently, the Family Day Adventure Golf Competition invites families to test their skills on the estate’s spectacular 18-hole course.

Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the Botanical Society BotSoc Talk on August 23rd. This free conservation discussion, presented by the BotSoc Plant Committee, will be followed by a guided walk through the estate’s luxurious grounds, from 10:00 for tour hours at a ticket price of R 350 Per Person.

For those seeking a challenge, the Race to the Sea on August 31st offers a thrilling 100-mile journey from Franschhoek to Benguela Cove. Participants and spectators alike can enjoy the estate’s range of activities, including wine tasting, vineyard safaris, and eco-cruises, as well as a 20 percent discount on luxury villa accommodation. Food lovers can indulge in the Family Sharing Sunday Lunch, a weekly event at the popular Moody Lagoon Restaurant. Executive Chef Annie Badenhorst presents a menu featuring succulent roast chicken and lamb, served with all the traditional trimmings.

The event series culminates with a grand Heritage Day celebration on September 24th. Priced at R750 per person, this event features traditional South African cuisine, including whole lamb and pork on the spit, accompanied by a variety of salads and desserts. Visitors are invited to visit the gallery and enjoy a range of contemporary artwork in an art and wine pairing experience, which is open 09:30 to 18:00 in the autumn months.

The estate ranks 53rd in the Top 100 ‘World’s Best Vineyards’ 2023 and has been awarded ‘Cellar Door Experience of the Year’. Its wines have won 10 Medals of Excellence in Tim Atkin’s 2022 South Africa Wine Special Report, cementing its status as a Hermanus wine farm producing some of the best South African wines.

For those looking to extend their stay, Benguela Cove offers luxury villa holiday accommodation. Each oceanside villa features en-suite bedrooms, a private pool, and Wi-Fi, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the estate’s tranquil atmosphere.

August marks the beginning of wildflower season, with fynbos coming into bloom across the landscape, adding another layer of beauty to the estate’s already stunning surroundings. Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate invites visitors to experience the best of South African hospitality, set in one of the country’s most beautiful locations. Whether you are a wine enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a unique day out, Benguela Cove promises an experience to remember, says Penny Streeter.
