The Chef behind Eat Out Retail Capital Best New Restaurant, Darren Badenhorst, together with friend and accomplished restauranteur, Steven Comrie, opened a new street food restaurant in the heart of Stellenbosch in July.
Aptly titled Gochu Gang, in an ode to the popular Korean spice Gochujang, the new restaurant specialises in Asian street food, offering a range of classic dishes such as dim sum, dumplings, sushi, bao buns and yakitori, also known as skewered grilled chicken.
The core food philosophy behind the new restaurant is to offer diners a vibey “social hangout with fast, affordable and tasty food, comprising some of the most popular street foods from the high-paced Asian food scene,” says Darren. The dishes available are Asian-inspired street food with an elevated twist, but Darren says that “personal tweaks” will be made to the dishes to make the offering “even more diverse and engaging”.
The Asian Street food offering extends beyond the food and into the décor and ambience of the new spot. Echoing the theme of Tokyo nightlife, Gochu Gang will feature bright neon signs, interactive games such as air hockey, music and live entertainment.
