Nestled amidst the enchanting vineyards of Stellenbosch, 96 Winery Road Restaurant provides an unparalleled dining experience that is sure to captivate your senses. Recently, we had the pleasure of immersing ourselves in the world of exquisite cuisine and fine wines at this remarkable establishment.
Stepping into the restaurant, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, that immediately made us feel at home. The crackling fire near our table added a cozy touch. As we settled in, we discovered that this dining destination boasts an impressive 27-year history, solidifying its status as a Cape Winelands institution. Owned by Ken Forrester, Martin Meinert, Allan Forrester and Natasha Wray, with Allan & Natasha at the helm of day-to-day operations, it is clear that a wealth of experience and passion for hospitality resided within these walls.
Glancing at the menu, we were immediately captivated by the array of enticing options presented before us. We found ourselves torn between the Plate Menu and the Signature Big Plates. Ultimately, we opted for the Plate Menu.
Our culinary journey commenced with the “Duck & Cherry pie”, each bite offering a harmonious blend of flavours and textures. The “Panko Crumbed Prawns”, accompanied by a bone marrow sauce, delivered a unique and delicious combination that left us craving more. And then came the Wagyu Rib Rasher “Plankie,” prepared in Korean BBQ style. It was simply delicious, with the tenderness of the Wagyu – the burst of flavors, creating an unforgettable experience. The” Hollandse Pepper fillet”, with its peppery brandy cream sauce and house-cut chips, proved to be a delectable choice.
Every plate we savoured reflecting the mastery of Adrian Buchanan, the head chef, and Porchia Cyster, the sous chef, providing hearty and nourishing fare.
To conclude our epicurean journey, we indulged in two heavenly desserts. The Dark Chocolate Tart and the crème brûlée, with their flawlessly caramelized crusts and luxurious custards, were some of the finest renditions we have ever encountered.
As expected from a restaurant in this esteemed wine region, the wine selection at 96 Winery Road Restaurant was nothing short of impressive. We were delighted to learn that the restaurant would be hosting a monthly Wine & Dine tasting from July to September, featuring a winery of choice for each month, accompanied by a thoughtfully crafted tasting or pairing menu.
Reflecting on our time spent at 96 Winery Road Restaurant, we can wholeheartedly say that we enjoyed every moment and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a gastronomic adventure.
