The RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town (RMB UTCT) — one of Africa’s most prestigious endurance events — returns from 21 to 23 November 2025, bringing together elite athletes and passionate trail runners from around the world. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula, this world-class race captures the essence of Cape Town’s wild beauty and spirit of adventure.

Recognised as one of the World Trail Majors, RMB UTCT offers runners an unforgettable journey through the city’s iconic mountain network — from Platteklip Gorge and Devil’s Peak to Constantia Nek and the Twelve Apostles. The routes combine steep climbs, rocky descents and sweeping views, creating a challenge that rewards both grit and grace.

“RMB UTCT 2025 reflects the incredible growth of trail running in South Africa — a movement built on shared passion, grit and connection,” says Michael Edwards, RMB Sponsorship Marketing Lead. “It’s a privilege for RMB to support an event that unites athletes, communities and nature.”

South Africa’s Richest Trail-Running Event

Now offering R755 500 in total prize money, RMB UTCT 2025 is officially the highest-paying trail-running event in South Africa. Male and female winners will receive equal prize purses across all categories, reinforcing RMB’s ongoing commitment to fairness and excellence in sport.

With distances ranging from the accessible 16 km KS16 to the gruelling 100-miler, the event caters to runners of every level. The 100 km race has a 26-hour cut-off, while the 100-miler pushes competitors through 45 hours of some of the most scenic and demanding terrain in the Southern Hemisphere.

Nurturing Future Champions

RMB’s long-term partnership with UTCT extends beyond financial support. Through initiatives like LIV2Run, the bank invests in the next generation of South African athletes — providing mentorship, coaching and life-skills training. These programmes focus on developing resilience, leadership and personal growth alongside athletic performance.

By opening doors for emerging talent from all backgrounds, RMB and UTCT are helping to grow trail running from the grassroots, building a stronger and more inclusive sporting community.

Protecting the Cape’s Natural Heritage

Environmental sustainability remains central to RMB UTCT’s mission. The race celebrates and protects the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, by supporting key conservation projects such as:

  • The Sugarbird Project, safeguarding vital fynbos pollinators.
  • Sustainable Cedar, restoring the endangered Clanwilliam cedar tree.
  • Friends of Table Mountain, maintaining and rehabilitating trail networks.

These initiatives ensure that the trails inspiring thousands of runners each year remain preserved for future generations.

A Global Sporting Showcase

Beyond the competition, RMB UTCT is a powerful driver of sports tourism and local economic growth. Thousands of local and international participants and supporters boost Cape Town’s hospitality, transport and retail sectors each year. With over 1 000 international entrants expected for 2025, the event continues to strengthen South Africa’s reputation as a world-class endurance destination.
