Salsify at the Roundhouse has been named as “Africa’s Best Landmark Restaurant 2024” or the second year in a row, at the fifth annual World Culinary Awards™.
The World Culinary Awards™ is a global initiative to recognise and reward excellence in the culinary industry. The annual World Culinary Awards Winners dinner was held on 2 October 2024 at Summersalt, Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel, Dubai.
Head Chef for Salsify, Nina du Toit, attended the awards on behalf of the Salsify team. “It has been six years since Salsify first opened its doors,” she remarked on accepting the award. “Awards like these acknowledge our efforts and reward us for the time we’ve taken to get here and the time we put into every day to make Salsify an exceptional experience for our guests.”
With sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and a backdrop of Lion’s Head, Salsify is a cornerstone of Cape Town’s fine dining scene and serves modern cooking, inspired by nature and driven by the seasons.
The richly storied walls of Salsify’s historically significant building, The Roundhouse, date to 1786. Its interiors are a testament to time and feature anarchic graffitied stories by Louis de Villiers A.K.A Skullboy which narrate the story of one of the building’s earliest inhabitants, Dr James Barry. The centrepiece of the restaurant is undoubtedly the Origami ceiling installation in the Seasonal Room. The installation features thousands of old Salsify menus, some dating back to the restaurant’s opening.
“We are fortunate enough to work from one of the most incredible locations in Cape Town – between land and sea,” says executive chef and co-owner of Salsify, Ryan Cole. “I am incredibly proud of my team, and grateful for the acknowledgement.”
Salsify is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and Sunday for lunch. Booking is essential.
