Meerendal Launches Farmers’ Market

Meerendal

Meerendal, one of the Durbanville Wine Valley’s most prestigious and popular wine estates, has announced the launch of a Farmers’ Market that will be held on the grounds of the estate on a number of Saturdays of every month, starting this weekend on Saturday, September 1, from 07:30 to 17:00. The next one will take place at the estate on Saturday, September 22.

Housed in an all-weather marquee, the market will feature a large selection of products and gifts including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, dry goods, preserves and homemade confectionary. Freshly cut flowers and an assortment of pot plants and succulents will also be on sale, as will beautiful hand-crafted jewellery and other arts and crafts.

Once the shopping is done, marketgoers can ease their hunger pangs with a selection of tasty foods that will be on sale including a spit braai, sushi, calamari, burgers, saucy sausages and homemade soups to name a few. For the sweet options there are mallow snaps, ice creams and an outside kiosk serving popcorn, candy floss and sweets. Fresh juices, tea and coffee will also be on offer.

Says Meerendal’s Bennie Howard: “This is the perfect way to spend a relaxing day with family and friends. In addition to the amazing things on offer to buy and eat, there’ll also be live music, fabulous Meerendal wines and craft beers to sample and food, soft drinks and  entertainment for the youngsters.”

Entrance to the market costs R50 per adult with children under 18 admitted free. Also, free entrance to the launch event will be given to all parkrun attendees on presentation of their barcode identity. No pets are allowed on the Meerendal Wine Estate unless they are registered guide dogs.
