Somerset West’s iconic Vergelegen Estate has officially retained its crown, claiming the prestigious title of Best Wine Farm Experience for the second consecutive year at the public-voted Kfm Best of the Cape Awards. Welcoming over 160,000 local and international visitors annually, the historic destination continues to set the benchmark for unforgettable Western Cape day trips.
A Winning Recipe of Wine, Gardens, and Hospitality What makes Vergelegen so magnetic? It’s the seamless mix of natural beauty, deep heritage, and genuine warmth. From strolling through its historic botanical gardens and standing beneath centuries-old camphor trees to sipping award-winning vintages over a long lunch, the estate captures the very best of Cape living. As Kfm presenter Carl Wastie put it when celebrating the win, “You can visit for the gardens and stay for the wine, food, and service. That’s why people have voted for you—there’s pure magic at Vergelegen.”
Heart, Soul, and Dedicated Staff Managing Director Wayne Coetzer credits this back-to-back victory to the dedicated team working behind the scenes. “We are absolutely honoured,” said Coetzer. “Thank you to everyone who has made a memory here, either by visiting or enjoying our glorious wine. These accolades are always due to the staff who go out of their way, every day, heart and soul, to make every experience fantastic for our visitors.”

Exciting Upgrades on the Horizon Rather than resting on its laurels, the team is channeling that energy into fresh dynamic offerings. Following a devastating fire in March, the estate has been busy rebuilding its beloved Stables restaurant. Scheduled to reopen this November, it will feature a refined culinary menu and seating for 80 guests. Families can also look forward to an upgraded children’s play area, ensuring young visitors enjoy their time just as much as the adults.
Whether you are planning a relaxed family weekend, a romantic garden stroll, or a tasting of benchmark Cape wines, Vergelegen remains a must-visit destination.
