Waterfront Duck’ Bus Set to Splash into Cape Town

Cape Town is set to introduce its first amphibious ‘Waterfront Duck’ bus, offering a unique blend of land and sea tourism. The innovative vehicle, envisioned by Keith Lindsay, will serve as both a bus and a boat, providing tours around the iconic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

This concept, inspired by similar tours in Boston, was a long-held dream of Lindsay, a former marketing professional, who envisioned the project in 2008.

The ‘Waterfront Duck’ will commence operations after overcoming numerous regulatory hurdles to gain approvals from both maritime and road authorities. The vehicle, custom-built in the UK, is equipped with state-of-the-art safety features suitable for its dual-function. The tours are designed to highlight the history and marine ecology of the area without venturing beyond the harbour walls.

Lindsay plans to expand his fleet if the initial launch proves successful, aiming to enhance the Cape Town tourism landscape with this novel attraction. The tours promise an educational and entertaining experience, perfect for those looking to explore Cape Town’s scenic waterfront in a novel way.

The official launch is scheduled for 31 July, following final regulatory approvals, potentially preceded by a soft opening. This ambitious project could soon become a permanent, iconic activity for both locals and tourists in Cape Town.
