VUSA Launches Atlas Digibus to Boost Education in Langa

VUSA Rugby & Learning Academy is proud to showcase its innovative mobile education project, the Atlas Digibus, during a special event with the Atlas Foundation on 4 November, coinciding with Prince William’s upcoming Earthshot Prize tour. This event highlights the importance of education in fostering sustainable change and aligns with VUSA’s mission to support young learners in Langa.

The Atlas Digibus, a generous donation to VUSA from the Atlas Foundation, serves five primary schools in Langa, addressing the critical need for a smooth transition from mother-tongue instruction to English for Grade 4 students while also introducing Grade 5 students to essential coding skills. This fully equipped mobile classroom, featuring 37 laptops, delivers vital language and digital literacy education directly to children in need.

“Foundation phase is the time when children learn to read so that in later years they are reading to learn. It is especially challenging for children to meet Grade 4’s curriculum demands if the language they have learned to read in does not match the language of instruction,” says Nikki Matthews, COO of VUSA. “The Digibus bridges that gap, demonstrating measurable improvements in reading and mathematics.”

Coronation Fund Managers proudly supports VUSA, covering operational costs and providing four interns to assist in this vital initiative. “Our commitment to supporting education programmes is at the heart of our CSI initiatives, as we believe that this is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and unemployment in South Africa,” says Anton Pillay, CEO of Coronation. “With access to the right resources, VUSA can further enhance its impact on society.”
