Unlocking Nature’s Opportunities with CapeNature Access Week

CapeNature

From 20 to 26 September 2025, CapeNature will open its gates wide with Access Week, giving the public free entry to some of the Western Cape’s most spectacular reserves. This initiative is more than a free outing — it’s a chance to rediscover the province’s natural treasures, reconnect with ourselves, and embrace opportunities rooted in the land we call home.

At a time when financial pressures challenge households across the province, Access Week offers more than cost savings. It is CapeNature’s invitation to take a pause from city life, breathe in fresh mountain air, and find renewed energy in nature. Whether it’s hiking, mountain biking, swimming, or birdwatching, every activity becomes a way to restore balance and uncover new inspiration.

A Journey Across the Cape’s Landscapes

CapeNature’s participating reserves stretch across the Western Cape, offering something for everyone. On the West Coast, adventurers can wander the rugged Cederberg or marvel at birdlife in Rocherpan. In the Overberg, De Hoop and De Mond’s serene coastal stretches beckon, while Stony Point is home to the beloved African penguins. In the Winelands, the trails of Jonkershoek and Hottentots Holland promise mountain escapes, while further east, the Garden Route and Klein Karoo unveil the wild beauty of Robberg, Keurbooms River, Grootvadersbosch, and Outeniqua.

Adding Value to Everyday Life

CapeNature’s Access Week is not just about entry; it’s about opportunity. For families, it’s affordable quality time together. For young people, it sparks curiosity about conservation and careers in environmental fields. For entrepreneurs in eco-tourism, it highlights how nature can be a source of livelihoods and innovation. Each visit adds value — to wellbeing, community connection, and our shared commitment to protect the Cape’s unique biodiversity.

CapeNature’s vision for Access Week is deeply rooted in resilience. These landscapes remind us of renewal, of strength, and of the opportunities that come when we protect what we have. By opening reserves to all, CapeNature ensures that nature itself remains a partner in building hope, balance, and sustainable futures for the Western Cape.
