This prestigious award, given by the leading authority on decor and lifestyle in Africa, recognizes outstanding interior design firms. Du Plessis, known for his global projects, such as the award-winning Giselle Miami club, the stylish Gorgeous George hotel in Cape Town, and the eco-conscious FYN restaurant, showcases a blend of maximalist and refined luxury in his designs.
Starting his boutique design studio in 2015, Du Plessis quickly became noted for his distinctive approach to hospitality projects. His work spans various continents, yet he maintains a strong commitment to South Africa by collaborating with local furniture designers and craftsmen. This approach enriches his projects and supports the local design community.
His recognition as Designer of the Year will be highlighted at Decorex events in Cape Town from 6 – 9 June, and in Johannesburg from 1- 4 August 2024. Each event will feature a Designer of the Year stand, offering attendees a chance to experience a slice of his international projects firsthand.
Reflecting on the accolade, Du Plessis expressed his honour and excitement, emphasizing his deep connection to South Africa and his intention to showcase South African talent in his work.
