Cape Town’s streets came alive on Saturday, 09 August 2025, as 15 000 women took part in the Totalsports Women’s Race in celebration of National Women’s Day and in support of PinkDrive. Against a backdrop of overcast skies – and with the rain mercifully holding off – the city hosted a vibrant display of colour, spirit, and solidarity.
From the energetic buzz at the start line to the river of pink winding its way through the Mother City, the race was as much about community and empowerment as it was about competition. Spectators lined the route, their cheers creating a wave of encouragement for runners and walkers alike.
Running for More Than a Medal
For many participants, the day was about running their own race – whether chasing a personal best, enjoying the scenic course, or simply soaking in the camaraderie. Messages of unity and mutual support echoed throughout, with athletes reminding each other of the power of coming together to uplift women.
The elite field delivered impressive performances, with both seasoned athletes and rising stars showcasing their talent. Among them, local standout Karabo More crossed as the first South African finisher, reflecting the pride and determination that defined the day.
Organisers Celebrate the Spirit of the Day
Event organisers hailed the race as a resounding success. Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, expressed gratitude to the thousands who participated:
“Your energy made this day truly special. We’re proud to celebrate and empower women through sport, and we’re excited to carry this incredible momentum into Johannesburg for the final race of the series on Sunday, 17 August.”
Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports, praised the city’s spirit:
“From the vibrant energy at the start line to the sea of pink winding through the streets of Cape Town, the atmosphere was truly electric. We are incredibly proud to be part of this iconic event that honours the strength, spirit, and resilience of women.”
As the last runners crossed the finish line, it was clear that the Totalsports Women’s Race was more than just a competition – it was a celebration of unity, resilience, and the collective heartbeat of a city running together.
