The highly anticipated Eden Street Mile Series, hosted by the Klein Karoo Athletics Fund (KKAF), is set to take place on 16 December 2024 in Oudtshoorn and 18 December 2024 in Hartenbos. With over R40,000 in prize money up for grabs, this event promises to attract top talent and enthusiastic participants alike.
Athletes will compete for the coveted Grand Prix trophy and substantial cash prizes, awarded to the top male and female athletes with the highest points. The event’s prestige is highlighted by its connection to World Athletics, which recently included street miles in the World Road Championships.
Notably, past Eden Street Mile winners Ryan Mphahlele and Carina Viljoen have represented South Africa internationally. The series also serves as a platform for athletes to impress Athletics South Africa (ASA) selectors, potentially earning spots on national teams.
The Eden Street Mile Series offers opportunities for athletes across a range of age categories to compete. Participants can join the Young Talent division, which is open to those born between 2010 and 2015. The Youth category is designed for athletes born between 2007 and 2009, while the Junior category accommodates those born between 2005 and 2006. The series also includes an Open category for general competitors, as well as a 40+ category for seasoned athletes over the age of forty.
In addition to the competitive elements, the Klein Karoo Athletics Fund emphasizes athlete development. A motivational clinic will be held on 17 December in Oudtshoorn, organized in collaboration with the Sport Development Department of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality and top athletes.
This clinic aims to inspire and support emerging talent while promoting wider participation in athletics. Further adding to the excitement, prizes will be awarded to the best male and female athletes from Athletics SWD (ASWD), recognizing local excellence in the region.
