South Africa is ready to join the ranks of elite marathon countries worldwide at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, entering its second year as an Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate!
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, expected to draw over 30,000 attendees, will take place at DHL Stadium in Green Point from October 14-15, 2023, with the Registration and Expo also scheduled during these dates, creating the perfect opportunity for the road and trail running community to connect.
Participants will tackle the Gold Label Status Road marathon, the 10km, or 5km Peace Runs, or one of the three incredible trails: the 46km Trail Marathon by Ryan Sandes, the 22km Trail Challenge, or the brand new 11km Trail Race. It’s time to show the world how we run a marathon in Africa. We are on a mission to put Cape Town, the African continent, its iconic marathon champions, and its magnificently diverse cultures on the world stage.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is set to host its second annual Elite Wheelchair race, and anticipation is running high. This year, the event promises an even more exhilarating race, as an impressive line-up of Elite Wheelchair racers is preparing themselves to take on the revamped course. With the removal of the District-6 climb from the new and improved route, athletes can look forward to a faster, more competitive race.
Ernst van Dyk, the South African wheelchair racer, is gearing up for his final race at this year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. With an illustrious career spanning 30 years, including competing in marathon Majors worldwide, Ernst’s dream of a Major sporting event on home soil can finally become a reality.
