The 15th annual Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa (SSFSA) returns to the District Six Homecoming Centre in Cape Town from 6 to 31 May 2025. This vibrant youth drama festival will feature 48 drama groups presenting fresh, abridged versions of Shakespeare’s timeless works, each performance lasting 30 to 45 minutes.
Celebrated as Africa’s largest youth Shakespeare event, SSFSA offers a non-competitive platform for young performers to showcase their talent through acting, music, dance, and physical theatre.
Since its inception in 2009, the festival has reached over 15,000 learners from 807 schools.
This year marks a special milestone with the participation of learners from School 1306 Moscow, bringing international flair with a cast of Russian students under the direction of English actor Jonathan Salway.
Embracing inclusivity, creativity, and education, the SSFSA continues to promote literacy, classic literature, and live theatre—empowering diverse youth to express themselves on a dynamic stage.
