In a moment of triumph, Star College Bridgetown and Star College Cape Town, in collaboration with Horizon Math Competition (HMC) and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), proudly hosted their highly anticipated annual HMC awards ceremony.
This grand event served as a platform to honour the exceptional talent and unwavering dedication displayed by participants in the Horizon Mathematics Competition, where extraordinary learners from numerous schools across South Africa and Mozambique showcased their mathematical prowess.
Amidst a backdrop of anticipation, 176 outstanding learners representing 45 schools emerged as shining stars, surpassing 94,867 participants. The competition was fierce, but the remarkable achievements of these young mathematicians could not be denied.
Golden Grove Primary School’s Grade 7 student, Adam Rassou, claimed the first position, securing the coveted Gold medal and winning an iPad. Somerset House’s Grade 7 student, Olivia Castleden, took the second position, earning the Silver medal and a Tablet 10. A thrilling tie for third place saw Nicholas Cox from Rondebosch Boys Prep School and Fynn Williams from Sweet Valley Primary School, both awarded Samsung phones for their extraordinary performances.
Mr. Batir, the dedicated HMC coordinator, expressed his honor to be part of the journey of these young mathematicians and emphasized that this is just the beginning of great success for these students if they continue to work hard.
