Purely South African ”Music and Memories” – compiled and produced by David Bolton

David Bolton

A self-narrating musical revue bringing the story and histrionics of old Springbok hits performed by South African singers and bands in a comfortable, relaxed supper theatre styled show. It is a light-hearted evening’s entertainment designed to bring back all those forgotten memories through its songs and visual effects.

Since music is so instrumental in reviving the memories, especially with the aged and having been involved with his late mother in a home, David was shocked to see so many of the aged being left and forgotten and saw that with music one could revive their memories and get some of them to converse albeit for just a short while. “It needs to be shown how important a role music plays in our lives and so the saying, “1 song 1000 memories” becomes so relevant”.

It was decided that it would be great to use the talents of local community actors and singers to be able to raise funds for the welfare aged. Bearing this in mind, it was offered to the Cape Peninsula Organization for the Aged and the Senior Santa Shoebox, a project assisting the welfare aged.

The Cape Peninsula Organisation For The Aged saw this as an ideal opportunity to showcase their 65th Anniversary.

“The show, ‘Purely South African,’ was chosen because we do it purely out of enjoyment, purely for charity and it acknowledges Purely South African talent,” says David Bolton. The show has been adapted in collaboration with well-known Cape Town Director Kyla Thorburn. The new show brings in some newer songs that we well may have forgotten.

David Bolton, himself a multi CATA award winning actor was born in Pietermaritzburg and moved to Cape Town in 1993. This show also provides unknown actors the opportunity to show their talents to the public and the casts boasts a diverse group of new talent.
“If we can have fun doing this as well as providing a new platform for artists and do it all for a great cause then we will have succeeded,” says David. The revue features 12 talented actors with a live band!

The show times are 7:30pm to 10:30pm from 4th – 14th July at the ROTUNDA at the Bay Hotel in Camps Bay.
