Platter’s by Diners Club has released the 2026 edition of South Africa’s most enduring and widely used wine guide. Now in its 46th year, the guide remains a definitive companion for anyone interested in local wine culture, offering an engaging and accessible entry point for newcomers, while still satisfying seasoned enthusiasts.
This latest edition profiles over 900 producers, merchants and brands, including more than 30 new names, and features detailed notes on more than 8,000 wines and grape spirits. Its combination of expert insights, easy-to-follow ratings and independent commentary has made it a staple on bookshelves and in tasting rooms across the country.

What’s New in 2026
The 2026 guide arrives with a bold new cover look—an energetic “Table Bay Sunset” palette of orange and white. Inside, the content has been fully refreshed, with updated producer descriptions, maps, regional summaries, and guides to grape varieties and wine styles.
A strong emphasis on travel continues to set Platter’s apart. The guide highlights tasting experiences, attractions, dining, and accommodation options throughout Cape Town and the winelands, making it ideal for planning day trips and weekend getaways. Specialised wine tour operators are also listed for those who prefer curated experiences.
Honouring Excellence: Top Awards
As in previous years, Platter’s presents its highly regarded five-star ratings for wines scoring 95 points or more. In the 2026 edition, 316 wines, brandies and husk spirits achieved this top tier.
From this elite group, 36 category winners earned the prestigious Wines of the Year titles, representing the highest performers across varietal and style categories. The guide also spotlights 430 Highly Recommended wines (rated 94 points), 168 Hidden Gems singled out for individuality and charm, 115 Superquaffers known for exceptional drinkability and value, and a set of cellar-worthy “Buy Now, Drink Later” selections.
Three major winery awards headline the achievements. Diemersdal Estate receives the Top Performing Winery of the Year for securing the most five-star wines during the final tasting round. The Editor’s Award Winery of the Year goes to Alheit Vineyards, recognised for a consistently outstanding track record since 2012. The Saldanha Wine & Spirit Co takes Newcomer Winery of the Year after debuting with two highly acclaimed wines scoring 95 and 96 points.

The guide is edited by Philip van Zyl and shaped by a respected tasting panel that includes leading local wine figures.
