Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival brings Cape wines to consumers

Wine & Food Festival

Swirl, sniff and sip your way through the best of South Africa’s wines at the annual Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival, which kicks off in Cape Town this month.

The retailer brings the Cape Winelands to Capetonians’ doorstep at Kenilworth Racecourse on April 29 and 30, accompanied by delicious food.

“With every imaginable varietal on offer for wine lovers to sample, alongside a simply sumptuous selection of fresh and delicious food offerings, it is definitely a day to discover new wines and enjoy old favourites, from elegant, crisp white wines and full-bodied, robust reds to French champagne,” says Pick n Pay.

More than 40 wine farms will be showcasing their wines this year, and a general ticket includes a tasting glass and 20 wine-tasting vouchers. Wine experts will guide festivalgoers through the various tasting options and explain each wine’s unique flavours and aromas for a renewed appreciation for the different wines.

Some other popular features at the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival include live music by local musicians and the popular dedicated Sparkling Experience, which boasts some of the greatest local brands and finest French champagne. The Pick n Pay Tasting Room delivers a 30-minute canapé and wine pairing experience hosted by winemakers and chefs. “This is an engaging session, perfect for those who are serious about their wine or those wanting more in-depth knowledge about their favourite wines,” says Pick n Pay.

For food, an impressive range can be enjoyed under the trees or at the expansive seating areas near the wine stands or live music. Options range from ‘hot out-the-oven’ pizzas and gourmet burgers to cheese and Charcuterie platters and grilled braai boards. There are vegan and vegetarian options available as well.

Festivalgoers can pre-book a Pick n Pay Picnic Basket with a curated showcase of delectable offerings. Think selected cheeses, cured hams, freshly baked bread, biltong, hummus, and more.

The event starts at noon on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 and ends at 18:00.
