The 18th Green Building Convention (GBC) will take place from 11–13 November 2025 at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town. Hosted by the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), the convention will gather global experts and innovators under the theme “Stepping Up to Next” — a call for the industry to push beyond sustainability and embrace regenerative, future-focused solutions.
The theme challenges the built environment sector to move from reducing harm to actively restoring ecosystems, strengthening resilience, and enhancing human well-being. As GBCSA CEO Lisa Reynolds explains, the event is about shaping “the next chapter of green building and paving the way for an industry that leads with purpose and impact.”
Programme Highlights
The three-day programme combines plenary sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and networking opportunities.
Day 1 (11 November): Keynote by architect Michael Pawlyn on regenerative design, with sessions on timber innovation, WELL and Green Star integration, and the Women in Green Building Awards. The evening features the popular Trashion Show.
Day 2 (12 November): Focus on resilience and finance, with tracks on climate adaptation, green investment tools, and urban water solutions. The day ends with the Gala Awards Dinner, celebrating trailblazers across categories such as Net Zero and Transforming Tomorrow.
Day 3 (13 November): Sessions cover the human factor in green buildings, climate risk and insurance, and design for wellbeing. The Closing Plenary features Dr Jacques Ludik, Olajumoke Adenowo, and Justice Malala, followed by the launch of the 2026 event.
Speakers include Dr Adenike Akinsemolu, Jose Vilandy, Alexandra Notay, and John Vlismas, alongside leaders from government, banking, and sustainability sectors.
The convention is more than a conference — it is a movement driving a regenerative, inclusive, and resilient future.
