Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, embarked on her journey from OR Tambo International Airport on 27 October 2024, representing South Africa in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City on 16 November. Wearing a stunning farewell outfit designed by Juan Aria William, Le Roux expressed her excitement for the opportunity to highlight South Africa’s rich diversity. “I cannot wait to highlight the beautiful diversity of our country and show that it is our biggest strength,” she shared.
As she prepares to walk in the footsteps of previous Miss South Africa titleholders, Le Roux is also making history as the first deaf contestant to compete on the Miss Universe stage. Reflecting on the opportunity, she said, “I try to view this as the opportunity and experience of a lifetime where my voice can be heard, and I can hopefully help to shine a light upon the blind spots of our world while carrying my beautiful country within my heart.”
Le Roux believes her unique journey is her greatest strength, recalling her parents’ early uncertainty about whether she would ever speak. Now, as she shares her voice on a global stage, she aims to represent not just her country but every person who has ever felt excluded. “Someone once said that I did well with Miss South Africa because of the struggle I represent. But I say I did well because of the victory I represent, and I believe that is my advantage.”
As the world watches, Mia le Roux’s journey is a powerful reminder of resilience and the importance of inclusivity. South Africa stands proudly behind her as she steps forward with confidence, turning challenges into triumphs and bringing a message of hope to the world. May her story continue to inspire us all to make a difference.
