Stanford in Bloom and Chelsea Flowers in Stanford return for their third consecutive year from 12 to 27 September 2026. The annual festival transforms the historical Overberg village of Stanford into a celebration of South Africa’s world-renowned floral biodiversity and community spirit.
The highlight of the event is the exact local recreation of South Africa’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show exhibit. Fresh off wins for a Gold Medal and the prestigious “Best Exhibit in the Great Pavilion” award in London, landscape designer Leon Kluge and creative artist gardener Tristan Woudberg bring their spectacular installation, Life After Fire, back to home soil.
Flora, Fire, and Regeneration
Life After Fire highlights the extraordinary ecological role fire plays in regenerating the Cape Floral Kingdom. Inspired by the wildfires that recently swept through the region’s mountains, the exhibit showcases a post-fire landscape using over 20,000 cut protea stems, thousands of burnt branches, flowering bulbs, and native orchids.
At the center of the display is a dramatic sculptural vortex of charred wood, accompanied by a natural stream complete with rare Disa orchids, carnivorous sundew plants, and star-like Rhodohypoxis flowers from the high elevations of the Drakensberg.

Visitors to Stanford can experience the full-scale installation while taking part in a fortnight of village-wide spring festivities across the area:
- Botanical Art: View an exhibition of fine botanical artworks from the Grootbos Florilegium, including brand-new pieces depicting fire ephemerals—rare flowers that only bloom the season following a wildfire.
- Chelsea Talks & Conversations: Attend behind-the-scenes talks by designers Leon Kluge and Tristan Woudberg detailing their journey to international victory, alongside a special conversation hosted by TV presenter Jak de Priester.
- Tented Village Market: Visit the central market on the Stanford Village Green featuring craft vendors, live musical performances from artists like Koos Kombuis and the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and a botanical gin and wine garden.
- Interactive Workshops & Food Demos: Participate in over 20 creative workshops ranging from horticulture masterclasses to candle making, alongside cooking and tasting sessions at the Klein River Cheese Demo Kitchen featuring top local chefs and winemakers.
