On Saturday, 6 September 2025, the King Price Race to the Sea returns for its fourth thrilling edition, promising cyclists one of South Africa’s most breathtaking and rewarding gravel and adventure races. Stretching from the heart of Franschhoek to the coastal elegance of Hermanus, this iconic race challenges riders to push their limits while experiencing the diverse beauty of the Western Cape — from rugged mountains to rolling farmlands and ocean views.
Two Distances. One Incredible Adventure
The King Price Race to the Sea 2025 features two route options, welcoming both hardcore cyclists and ambitious first-timers:
The epic 100-mile (164 km) route starts at the iconic Huguenot Memorial Monument in Franschhoek, guiding riders over a mix of gravel roads, paved stretches, and exhilarating single-track trails. It’s a demanding test of skill and endurance, with rewarding climbs, fast descents, and jaw-dropping views around every corner. From vineyards to valleys and coastal flats, this race offers a little bit of everything — topped off with a sense of achievement that only finishing such a ride can bring.
For those seeking a slightly shorter but still tough challenge, the new 50-mile (82 km) route kicks off halfway along the longer course, with 1444 metres of climbing to conquer before reaching the finish. Open to riders 15 years and older, this option makes the event more inclusive, giving more people a chance to experience the magic of this coastal adventure.
More Than a Race — A Day of Spirit and Scenery
The Race to the Sea is not just about the miles; it’s about the spirit of adventure and the incredible community that comes together to celebrate cycling. Along the way, riders can count on well-placed water points, mechanical and medical support, and the encouragement of fellow participants and supporters. Whether racing for a podium finish or simply to say “I did it,” every cyclist is part of something bigger — a day filled with challenge, triumph, and camaraderie.
From Franschhoek’s mountains to Hermanus’ shores, the race promises panoramic views, tough climbs, and unforgettable descents, with a final stretch that feels as rewarding as the finish line itself.
