The Hopefield Fynbos Show is proudly celebrating its 37th anniversary this year, inviting visitors from all across South Africa to join in one of the West Coast’s most beloved events from 27 to 30 August 2026. Hosted by the Hopefield Sports Club, the show has grown over the years into a true celebration of the Sandveld’s unique fynbos, agriculture, culture, and community spirit.
Under the leadership of Helena van der Westhuizen, chairperson of the Hopefield Fynbos Show, and Olivier Slabber, vice-chairperson, a dedicated show committee and hundreds of volunteers work for months to offer visitors an unforgettable experience. “The Hopefield Fynbos Show is not just an event; it is a celebration of our people, our nature, and our pride,” says Van der Westhuizen.
A World-Class Floral Spectacle
The world-famous Fynbos Exhibition remains the undisputed highlight of the show. Spearheaded by Gideon and Phoebe Melck, with support from Jacques van der Westhuizen and numerous local farmers, hundreds of fynbos species from the Sandveld and surrounding areas are collected and displayed in a spectacular arrangement. This exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the incredible biodiversity of the West Coast up close.
Local Flavors, Entertainment, and Family Fun
In addition to the stunning flora, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of arts and craft stalls, farm produce, delicious food, agricultural displays, and entertainment for the whole family. The popular Friday Night Steak Braai with live music is annually one of the main social highlights of the weekend.
Guests can also attend daily organ recitals by Julian Melck in the historic Dutch Reformed Church (NG Kerk), learn more about bees and their crucial role in nature during talks at Simply Bee, and admire the beautiful classic cars hosted by the Route 4 Classics Motor Club.
A Tradition of Community and Collaboration
The Hopefield Fynbos Show stands as proof of what is possible when a community pulls together. It is an occasion where tradition, nature conservation, and warm hospitality walk hand in hand, ensuring visitors return home year after year with unforgettable memories.
