Spring in the Cape Winelands reaches its peak as Garden Town Stellenbosch, a flagship initiative presented by Stellenbosch Municipality and hosted by Visit Stellenbosch, returns for its landmark fifth edition from 23 October to 1 November 2026. Over ten vibrant days, the historical town transforms into a destination-wide celebration of spring, uniting lush gardens, creative communities, local gastronomy, and outdoor living.
Designed to give residents and visitors more reasons to explore beyond the familiar, the festival connects the region’s rich horticultural heritage with its local businesses and creative talent.
The Festival Hub: Town Hall Garden Show, Market & Tea Garden
At the heart of the celebration is the Stellenbosch Town Hall, which will be transformed into a botanically inspired garden show and market curated in partnership with Cobus Smit and local creative collective Skeppend. Running from 23 to 31 October, the bustling market features more than 70 vendors showcasing locally made goods, botanical décor, unique plants, and creative artisanal work.
Visitors can browse curated stalls, meet local makers, and unwind at the Lounah Cup coffee cart and Tea Garden, which will serve morning coffee, light lunches, and glasses of bubbly throughout the day.
Street Parades, Soirées, and Community Festivities
Adding to the festive energy, the 2026 programme introduces major community-driven events in the heart of town. On Tuesday, 27 October, the Grand Flower Parade brings floral creativity, music, and local spirit to the streets. The free spectacle gathers at Die Braak from 17:00 before winding its way through central Stellenbosch to the Town Hall at 17:45.
The celebrations continue on Wednesday, 28 October, with the season-opening Stellenbosch Street Soirée along oak-lined Drostdy Street. From 18:00 to 20:00, guests can sample local food, fine wine, and live entertainment under the stars.
Exclusive Private Open Gardens and Charitable Giving
A perennial highlight of Garden Town Stellenbosch is the rare access to more than 14 private home gardens across the valley. Festival-goers can step behind normally closed gates to tour private residential sanctuaries, alongside exploring over 12 public gardens including Tokara, Slee’s Meadow Garden, the Gouws Sculpture Garden, Spier, and Babylonstoren.
In a meaningful gesture of community support, profits generated from entry fees to participating private gardens will be donated directly to the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS).
Workshops, Talks, and Sustainable Living
Beyond visual spectacle, the programme packs in more than 40 workshops, talks, and guided tours focused on biodiversity, art, and sustainable living. Highlights include sessions at the new Dorpplaas venue, interactive classes at Kayamandi’s community vegetable garden, and guided walks hosted by Wilton Sikhosana, Head of Nursery and Horticulture at Spier.
