FynbosLIFE Fair – A Celebration of Biodiversity and Conservation

FynbosLIFE Fair

Mark your calendars for the second FynbosLIFE Fair, set to grace the Zandvlei Lookout in Muizenberg on 10 September 2023. This event, a balm for the soul of those grappling with environmental concerns, will immerse attendees in the vibrant world of fynbos. Fynbos festivities are set to dominate the day, providing a great cure for any ‘eco-anxiety’.

“Cape Town is considered both the biodiversity and extinction capital of the world, within a buzzing Cape Floristic Region (CFR) biodiversity hotspot. Found only in the CFR, the Fynbos Biome is globally renowned for its exceptional plant species richness and endemicity. We want to showcase this and all things fynbos at the second FynbosLIFE Fair,” states Dr Caitlin von Witt, botanical ecologist and director of FynbosLIFE.

Dr. von Witt is scheduled to deliver insights into FynbosLIFE, fynbos propagation, restoration, and her team’s involvement in FynbosLIFE projects like KURUfynbos, BoSSIES, FUNDAfynbos, and the retail Cape Flats Fynbos Nursery.

Visitors can anticipate an array of fynbos-inspired artwork, ceramics, fabrics, homeware, as well as fynbos-infused gin, rum, culinary delights, and much more. Young attendees can explore the FUNbos play area, which offers an array of environmentally themed activities through the Butterfly Art Project, Nature Connect, Sharkspotters, and other engaging initiatives.

The event will also feature over thirty conservation and environmental groups, along with experts in sustainability, offering an opportunity to alleviate eco-anxiety and encourage active participation in their endeavours. The comprehensive program encompasses two workshops – Cyanotype Artwork and Elderflower Fynbos Plant Casting – a talk, book signing, and an extraordinary film screening.
