Capetonians are invited to join the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K organizers, sponsors and partners at a fun ‘City Clean Up’ that will start at the Absa Branch in Adderley Street (Cape Town) at 08:30 on Saturday 13 May 2023, a day before the iconic event sees thousands of runners and walkers painting the streets of the Mother City red.
“Not only is the ‘City Clean Up’ a fun way for residents, runners, and walkers to get to know each other, but it also provides the community with the perfect opportunity to be a force for good in the Mother City,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series. “We would like to invite all Capetonians to join us as we prep the mother city to shine at the 8th annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K. A mass participation road race that features an impressive elite racing element, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K places its host city on a pedestal, celebrating its splendour, the vibe and its people.”
In closing Meyer adds: “We would like to thank Absa in advance for the scrumptious breakfast packs that will be available post ‘Clean Up’ and Coca Cola Peninsula Beverages for keeping participants hydrated. We are also thankful to PETCO for offering their invaluable support. We can’t wait to catch up with Capetonians on Saturday 13 May 2023.”
PETCO is a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) that administers Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes on behalf of its members for various packaging material streams in order to build a circular economy and lead producer responsibility in South Africa.
“Initiatives like the ‘City Clean Up’ allow PETCO to move off the side-lines and into the thick of consumer and civic responsibility,” says Kara Levy, PETCO Marketing Manager. “Packaging touches us all, whether directly or indirectly, and it is imperative that we come together to be part of true sustainability when the opportunity (such as this Clean Up) presents itself. We all have an important role to play in shifting South Africa away from a ‘take-make-dispose’ system to a circular economy by ensuring that valuable resources, such as PET bottles or liquid board cartons, are diverted from landfill and collected for recycling. PETCO is proud to show its support of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K ‘City Clean Up’, by once again sponsoring gloves and clear plastic bags for the volunteers. The plastic bags are made from recycled plastic and are recyclable. This will ensure that litter will be easy to sort, and the recyclables can be responsibly taken to be recycled.” To find a drop off site near you visit: https://petco.co.za/find-a-buy-back-centre/

Event Partner, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, will supply soft drinks for all participants of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K ‘City Clean Up’.
“We are excited to support the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K ‘City Clean Up’ and will once again go one step further by reducing the usage of plastic at the hydration tables on event day,” confirms Dan Davis, Commercial Activations Lead Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages. “Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages is committed to creating a world without waste by reducing waste not only at the events and activations that we are associated with, but also across our everyday business operations. Our purpose is to refresh the world, while making a difference. We aim to create this through a more sustainable business and a better shared future, for our people and the communities that we operate in.”
