The Cape Town Cycle Tour’s latest innovation, the Prelude Challenge, is in its final days, giving cyclists around the world one last chance to earn their medal before the deadline. With the challenge running from 22 February to 2 March 2025, riders have just a few days left to complete their 109km ride and secure their place in the event’s history.
A Global Cycling Movement
The Prelude Challenge has provided an opportunity for cyclists who can’t make it to Cape Town on 9 March 2025 to still be part of the iconic race. Whether tackling the distance outdoors or on a stationary bike, participants must complete the ride in under seven hours and upload their results to STRAVA. This global initiative has seen riders from all over the world take part, making the Cape Town Cycle Tour more inclusive than ever.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis praised the expansion of the event, saying, “The Cape Town Cycle Tour will now come to you if you can’t come to Cape Town. It’s a testament to the event’s accessibility and global appeal.”
The Final Push
With the challenge nearing its close, riders are pushing through their final kilometres. Those who complete the challenge will receive an official medal, with their results recorded alongside those of the main event. Local participants can collect their goodie bags at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo, while international riders will have theirs shipped.
David Bellairs, Director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, emphasised the significance of this initiative: “This ensures loyal participants who can’t travel to South Africa can still contribute to this much-loved event.”
The Main Event Awaits
As the Prelude Challenge comes to an end, all eyes turn to 9 March 2025, when the 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour will take thousands of cyclists on a breathtaking journey around the Cape Peninsula. With full road closures, spectacular coastal views, and cheering supporters, the event remains a highlight on the global cycling calendar.
For those still aiming to complete the Prelude Challenge—the clock is ticking. It’s time to push through the final stretch and claim your spot in the 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour legacy.
