CATS – The Musical

Cape Town Summer Rugby

Cape2Rio Yacht Race

First held in 1971, the race is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most challenging offshore sailing events. Summer Sunset Concerts

Grootbrak Grabadoo

The year draws to a close with the 22nd annual Grootbrak Grabadoo, a family-friendly outdoor event in the heart of the Garden Route. Participants can choose between a 4.8 km run or walk, or mountain bike routes ranging from 15 km to 75 km, catering to all fitness levels.

The festive spirit continues after the race with food stalls, boerie rolls and refreshments for finishers. Proceeds support Firstcare Wildfire Support and the Vorentoe Laerskool PTA, with children under 12 entering free, making it a meaningful and inclusive way to end the year.

New Year’s Eve Celebrations Across the Western Cape

Tweede Nuwe Jaar (Second New Year) Parade

The Tweede Nuwe Jaar, or Second New Year, is arguably Cape Town’s most culturally significant annual event. On 2 January, up to 13,000 minstrels known as the Kaapse Klopse parade through the city streets in brightly coloured suits, carrying ornate umbrellas and performing to the rhythmic beat of ghoema drums and brass instruments.

Rooted in the mid-19th century, when enslaved people were granted January 2 as a day off, the parade has evolved into a powerful symbol of resilience and cultural pride. The CBD and Bo-Kaap come alive with music, colour and movement in this joyous celebration of Cape Town’s living heritage.
