The FNB Wines2Whales is set to return in November 2024, marking another chapter in its legendary history as a premier mountain biking event in the Western Cape. Spanning three days, this race has become a must-do for cyclists around the world since its inception in 2009, offering a breathtaking route from the vineyards of Somerset West to the whale coast near Hermanus.

This year, the race concludes at the prestigious Benguela Cove Wine Estate, ranked among the World’s Top 100 Vineyards. Participants will journey through picturesque landscapes, tackling new and improved trails shaped by the Cape’s rugged terrain.

Johan Kriegler, the visionary Race Founder, has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Wines2Whales, especially in the aftermath of the devastating floods of 2023. These natural disasters forced a re-evaluation of the course, leading to the redesign of sections that were severely damaged. Kriegler and his team discovered new routes and constructed innovative bridges, ensuring that riders will face exciting new challenges and surprises along the way.
Highlights of this year’s race include a brand-new 12km trail at Lourensford Wine Estate, a fresh link between Vergelegen and Idiom Wines, and the unveiling of the fourth generation of the famous Poffadder trail at Paul Clüver Family Wines. The race will also feature the Houwhoek suspension bridge and the new Escape trail, leading to the stunning finish at Benguela Cove.

The Cape Trails team, under Kriegler’s guidance, has worked tirelessly to enhance the experience for all participants, ensuring that the magic of the FNB Wines2Whales remains as captivating as ever. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a newcomer, this year’s race promises to be an adventure like no other. Cyclists can choose from three events: Chardonnay (1-3 Nov), Pinotage (4-6 Nov), or Shiraz (8-10 Nov), each offering a distinct and unforgettable experience across the breathtaking landscapes of the Western Cape.
