The entry process for the 46th Cape Town Cycle Tour kicked off on Wednesday, 13 September 2023. The Cycle Tour attracts tens of thousands of cyclists and supporters to the Western Cape, with the event taking place on Sunday, 10 March 2024.
Entries are open!
Entries opened on Wednesday, 13 September for Charity and Corporate groups and on Thursday, 14 September for Cycle Tour Loyalty Club members (riders who have completed 10 or more Cycle Tours), and fully paid-up Pedal Power Association members – for both the 109km and 42km routes.
General and international entries for both distances open today, Tuesday, 19 September.
The general entry fees will be R850 (109km) and R445 (42km), with discounted entries available for scholars,18 years and under. Corporate entries are priced at R1 000. International entries are priced at R1 550.
Entry fees to all routes include the new high frequency timing board, which will replace the RaceTec chips the event has used in recent years. These will be valid for all road events for which the Cape Town Cycle Tour’s new timing partner, FinishTime, does the timing.
This concession is a Pedal Power Association initiative and PPA CEO Neil Robinson sees it as a crucial part of the association’s mandate to grow cycling across South Africa. “It’s part of making it more affordable and safer for all cyclists, not just for our PPA members. At the same time, we need to keep abreast of best-in-class technologies and we’re proud and excited to be investing in, along with the CTCTT, a new high frequency board for all cyclists riding the 2024 Cape Town Cycle Tour. This is a once-off investment that will benefit and hopefully encourage many more cyclists to join us next March, and beyond.”

109km – the classic route
By bicycle is truly the best way to enjoy the sights of the Mother City. On the second Sunday each March, riders do so with the safety of fully closed roads and the on-route support of the Cape Town Cycle Tour’s beneficiaries, the Pedal Power Association, and the Rotary Club of Claremont.
The 109km route takes cyclists through the Southern Suburbs, along the False Bay coast and past the puzzled penguins of Simon’s Town. After the Cape Point Nature Reserve, the halfway mark, they cool off in Scarborough and Misty Cliffs before getting their first sight of the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. The final ascent of the day, Suikerbossie, provides one of the legendary challenges of the route, followed by the descents through Camp’s Bay and Clifton, finishing in Green Point.
42km – half the effort, all the spirit
The 42km event -successfully launched in 2023, provided thousands of cyclists who might not have been quite ready for the full lap, the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. Far from a mundane meander along a closed freeway, they will again enjoy the vineyards of Constantia and the cooling Newlands Forest on their return, without skipping any of the big-event organisation the 109km riders enjoy – refreshment stops, fully closed roads and superb spectator support make either option a safe, enjoyable way to spend the day on your bike.
“This year’s launch of the 42km route was great for the event,” says Paula Barnard of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust. “It is a wonderful way to experience the festival of cycling the 109km distance offers, and we are looking forward to welcoming even more entries in 2024. What a perfect way to introduce schools and clubs to the adventure that is the Cape Town Cycle Tour; a challenge they can keep accepting.”
“The Cape Town Cycle Tour turns 46 this year, and we have a strong group of loyalty members who ride it year after year, enjoying the day of two-wheeled freedom in one of Africa’s busiest cities. And it’s such a beautiful ride – the sea, the mountain, the wildlife; there can’t be a prettier mass-participation ride in the world. A true celebration of cycling in a beautiful city that everyone must join,” concludes Barnard.
