From 22 to 25 June 2023, more than 200 esteemed brands captivated the imagination of 25,440 visitors who attended Decorex Cape Town at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The remarkable turnout created a dynamic decor and design marketplace, which enabled exhibitors to flourish, forge valuable connections, and generate invaluable exposure for their exceptional goods and services. The showcase went beyond mere visual stimulation by allowing visitors to touch, feel, and experience the showcased items firsthand. It created a platform for industry leaders to exhibit their exceptional craftsmanship and present the latest trends that are shaping the world of decor and design.
Anticipation for the event started escalating in early June as exhibitor spaces were sold out well in advance of the show. During the event itself, the atmosphere buzzed with vibrant energy as bustling stands and packed aisles delighted visitors. The Future Talks theatre hosted a well-attended program that pushed the boundaries of creative discourse, while renowned chefs entertained audiences with interactive cooking sessions in the Samsung Bespoke Cooking Theatre. The presence of esteemed culinary maestro, Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, delighted fans with book signings, and the gracious appearance of Dallmayr ambassador and Mrs South Africa, Palesa Matjekane, added an extra touch of elegance and distinction to the event.
The overwhelming sentiment across social media platforms was one of resounding positivity. @divadolz, a respected influencer, declared that “the exhibition gets better every year,” while @designbizcoach enthused, “I’m loving the SA vibe – this is home now.” Exhibitor Kevin Frankental, (Creative Director of Lemon) gushed: “The new-look Decorex Africa has evolved into a creative showcase for the best established and emerging talent in South Africa. It’s become the pinnacle event on the South African design calendar.”
This exhibition also hosted a record-breaking number of media guests, including traditional print, broadcast, online media outlets, as well as high-profile macro and micro influencers. Sandra Barrow, Decorex Africa Portfolio Director at exhibition organizer RX Global, highlighted the notable increase in interest from broadcast media, which resulted in numerous interviews with show organisers and select exhibitors.
“Following this extraordinary and record-breaking showcase in Cape Town, the Decorex Africa team extends heartfelt gratitude to all visitors, exhibitors, and suppliers for their integral role in this landmark event. RX Africa proudly presented Decorex Cape Town 2023 in collaboration with partners Lexus, Plascon, Samsung, and the City of Cape Town,” Barrow said.
Over and above offering VIP chauffeur drives, Lexus brought a slice of harmony to Decorex Cape Town with the beautiful Lexus Cherry Blossom exhibit that brought together humans, technology and nature. The Plascon x Superbalist shoppable apartment — which enabled visitors to physically try their hand at decorating rooms — was undoubtedly a highlight of the show, while Samsung’s Bespoke Cooking Theatre welcomed Cape Town’s top chefs as they created authentic dishes for showgoers using the latest Samsung appliances. The City of Cape Town supported the presence of emerging talent, Khosi Leteba of Bupa Studios.
Decorex Africa now sets its sights on sister shows Decorex Joburg, Design Joburg, and 100% Design Africa, which will be held concurrently at the esteemed Sandton Convention Centre from 3-6 August 2023. It’s time to mark your calendars!
