The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is not your typical sailing event; it’s an awe-inspiring journey that pushes the boundaries of human endurance and determination. With a route divided into eight legs and featuring between 13 to 16 individual races, including six treacherous ocean crossings, it stands as one of the most significant challenges the natural world has to offer. What sets this race apart is that it is the only event of its kind globally.
This year, over 700 people from 55 different nationalities and diverse professions, ranging from electricians and orthopedic surgeons to police sergeants and teachers, have come together to participate in this remarkable event.
Among them, the race proudly presents its first Mother-Daughter duo, embarking on a journey of a lifetime. They’ll be competing on a matched fleet of 70ft ocean racing yachts, designed to handle the toughest conditions the world’s oceans can throw at them.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is scheduled to arrive in Cape Town on 10 November, 2023. The iconic V&A Waterfront will serve as the venue for this incredible event, with the Clipper Race Dome open to visitors from 8 – 16 November.
Get Up Close and Personal: For those eager to get a taste of the action, there are public yacht tours available on Sunday, 12 November. Step aboard a Clipper Racing Yacht, explore above and below deck, and have conversations with the race crew currently taking part in the Clipper 2023-24 Race. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of ocean racing.
Inspiring the Next Generation: From 12 – 14 November between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, the Clipper Race is collaborating with local schools and communities to offer youth group and school yacht tours. Children will have the chance to experience life onboard an Ocean Racing Yacht and meet professional sailors, fostering a love for adventure and the open sea.
The Grand Departure: The grand finale of the Cape Town stopover is the race start on Thursday, 16 November.
