The City of Cape Town is excited to celebrate National Women’s Day (Friday 09 August 2019) amongst thousands of runners (and walkers) at the Totalsports Women’s Race.
“The Totalsports Women’s Race’s partnership with the City of Cape Town is truly valued,” says Dezroy Poole, Director Stillwater Sports. “Hosting a mass participation road run in the heart of a city is no small feat. From logistics to safety and security, the impact that the City of Cape Town has on the event is unparalleled. Together with the City of Cape Town we look forward to hosting a Women’s Day Celebration like no other on 09 August.”
According to Alderman JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, the City of Cape Town is proud to be associated with events that highlight important causes. “The Totalsports Women’s Race perfectly fits our strategic objectives in that it raises awareness about breast cancer, amongst other issues. We believe that the event amplifies the work that the City does in educating residents about the risks associated with breast cancer. In addition to encouraging healthy living, the Totalsports Women’s Race presents a fun day out for athletes, their families and supporters cheering on the sidelines.”
“Women are the driving force in our communities,” continues Alderman JP Smith. “All too often they put the needs of others ahead of their own, and not always with the recognition that they deserve. The 9th of August gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the role of women, and to celebrate their hopes, dreams and achievements. This should, however, be a daily occurrence, 365 days a year. We are excited to celebrate National Women’s Day in the magnificent City of Cape Town.”
