The Festive Light Switch-on, with an anticipated crowd of around 80 000, will usher in the joyous season, but it’s just one of many events taking place in Cape Town this coming weekend.
‘This weekend, our Events Permit Office together with the City’s Safety and Security teams, SAPS, and event organisers, will oversee events drawing nearly 160 000 attendees. The City is proud to provide financial support to some of these events, but also to assist in ensuring the safety and security of those in attendance is always a priority.
And this momentum is set to continue with a bumper summer season coming. This surge in events means more jobs, millions injected into the local economy, a boost for small businesses, and it keeps our tourism sector vibrant, thereby strengthening our reputation as a world-class events destination,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Mitchells Plain Festival Opens the Weekend
The Mother City’s bustling weekend of events kicks off in Mitchells Plain on Friday evening with the Mitchells Plain Festival at the Westridge Gardens.
The three-day festival will feature an exciting line-up of local artists, including YoungstaCPT, Ziggy, Craig Lucas, Paxton Fielies, Zoe Zana, Karin Kortje, Berry Trytsman, Von D and more.
Festivalgoers can enjoy carnival rides, food stalls, and craft vendors at the 17th edition of the Mitchells Plain Festival. The festival runs until Sunday, 30 November 2025.
Africa’s First Surf Expo Takes Over the CTICC
At CTICC 2, the inaugural Surf Expo Africa, the continent’s first all-ocean sports and beach lifestyle trade show, will host over 3 000 passionate ocean sports enthusiasts and beachgoers from across the country.
The three-day festival of surf and lifestyle exhibition, workshops, talks and brand demonstrations will take place from 28–30 November.
Torpedo SwimRun Challenges Athletes Across Land and Sea
On Saturday, 29 November, over 1 000 endurance athletes will brave the cold plunge in the Atlantic Ocean for the 9th edition of the Torpedo SwimRun.
The Torpedo SwimRun, an open water swimming and trail running extravaganza across Cape Town’s beaches and through rugged mountain terrain, will see the athletes traverse 16 km of water and land from Sandy Bay to Clifton.
Streetopia Turns Observatory Into a Car-Free Cultural Playground
In Observatory, Lower Main Road will be car-free on Saturday, 29 November for Streetopia – a community festival that brings together artists, nonprofit organisations, residents and local businesses for a day of street performances, artwork, gifting, music and much more.
Streetopia is a free event aimed at promoting a safer street culture for all using creativity.
Residents and motorists are advised that Lower Main Road, between Milton Road and Norfolk Road in Observatory, will be closed from 09:00 until 20:00 on the day.
Cape Malay Choirs Compete for the Silver Fez Crown
At Athlone Stadium, the Cape Malay Board will crown the winners of its 86th annual competition at the Grand Finale on Saturday.
Twelve groups will compete for the Silver Fez Crown, a symbol of prestige for the Cape Malay choral music heritage.
The competition starts at 13:30 and tickets are available through Quicket.
Formula 1 Thrills Return to Green Point on Sunday
On Sunday, 30 November, the Heineken World Tour will bring the Formula 1 experience to Cape Town with a day of motorsport, lifestyle and live music at the Green Point Precinct.
The event will see the return of the Red Bull F1 car to the Mother City’s streets for a few demo runs to provide spectators with a glimpse of the Formula 1 action under the shadow of Table Mountain.
The event kicks off at 12:00 and will run until 22:00.
Residents and motorists are advised that Fritz Sonnenberg at Bay Road, Stephen Way at Fritz Sonnenberg, Vlei Road at Helen Suzman Boulevard, and Granger Bay Boulevard at the Green Point A-Track Parking will be closed to traffic from early morning until late on Sunday evening.
