In 2020, Cape Town and the Western Cape re-joined the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. Representing 11 of the greatest wine cities and regions in the world, the Great Wine Capitals Global Network fosters deep and collaborative connections that serve the collective and local interest of its members.
Initiatives include empowering capitals and industry through symposiums and conferences, curating international business opportunities, strengthening global wine travel and tourism, facilitating academic exchanges and partnerships, leveraging efficient media promotion, and the recognition of greatness through the global Best of Wine Tourism Awards.
As part of this network, the Western Cape continues to celebrate and promote its diverse and most excellent wine tourism offerings through the Best Of Wine Tourism Awards 2022, as well as the inaugural Wine Tourism Ambassador Awards 2022.
The prestigious Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Awards celebrate innovation and excellence in wine tourism throughout the eleven greatest wine regions of the world.
These awards provide an opportunity for wineries and other visitor-serving businesses in each region to gain exposure and recognition for their commitment to presenting leading wine tourism options, while also giving visitors a one-stop list of the best places to visit.
The 2022 Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards saw a number of entries from wineries in each of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network’s member cities, in seven different categories, namely: Accommodation, Wine Tourism Restaurant, Sustainable Wine Tourism Practice, Architecture & Landscape, Art & Culture, Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences as well as Wine Tourism Services.
