Every South African knows a good boerie roll. The smell of boerewors sizzling on the braai, the soft white roll waiting on the side, the fried onions, rich smoor, signature sauces, and that first bite that is messy, warm, and completely worth it. It is the kind of food memory that belongs to school fairs, rugby days, Saturday braais, roadside stops, market mornings, and those no-fuss moments where simple food hits the spot.
Now, Buri has opened in Cape Town’s East City with its own elevated take on this nation-wide favourite.
Opening in the first week of August 2026 at Shop 1, 99 Harrington Street, Buri is the newest concept from Neil Swart and Anouchka Horn, the culinary minds behind Belly Restaurant Group (BRG). The group behind some of Cape Town’s most distinctive dining experiences—including Belly of the Beast, Galjoen, and Seebamboes—is known for thoughtful food, strong concepts, and hospitality that feels personal rather than predictable. With Buri, BRG is taking a humble, generous staple and doing it the Buri way.

Crafting the Perfect Roll
At Buri, every single part of the roll has been designed with intent. The custom soft white bun was created specifically to hold the full experience while retaining the comforting feel everyone loves. The star of the show—the boerewors—is an exclusive recipe developed for Buri by the renowned Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, giving the eatery its own signature flavour profile from the start.
The Opening Menu
The menu launches with three core Buri rolls:
- The Classic: Keeps things simple and traditional with boerewors and golden fried onions.
- The Farmer: Leans into heritage with rich tomato and onion smoor for a homely feel.
- The O.G: Adds a touch of attitude with garlic mayo, chilli chutney, and fresh rocket.
To complete the meal, guests can visit a dedicated sauce station featuring classics like tomato sauce, mustard, and chutney alongside homemade BBQ, peri-peri, and the signature Buri sauce.
“Everyone has a boerie roll memory,” says Neil Swart. “It is one of those things that is so simple, but when it is done properly, it is brilliant. We wanted to make something easy, generous, and full of flavour.”
Playful Sides and Adult Nostalgia
To keep regulars returning, Buri introduces a monthly Buri of the Month, showcasing adventurous sausages like bushpig knackwurst, venison wors, sosatie wors, and playful local options like skilpadjie wors.
For sides, Buri Loaded Fries pile on garlic mayo, chilli chutney, rocket, and sliced boerewors—built for sharing (or keeping to yourself). Dessert offers soft mini doughnuts with rotating toppings like caramelised white chocolate and pecan nut, milk chocolate with Maldon salt, Peppermint Crisp tart-inspired glazes, or tonka bean sugar.
Drinks maintain the tongue-in-cheek spirit with an Adults Soda Fountain, serving brandy & Coke on tap, gin & tonic, beer, and cider in an easy, uncomplicated setting.
