Award-winning wines connecting SA’s maritime vineyards to England’s historic gardens

Wines

Like the swallows that migrate annually between England and South Africa, Benguela Cove wines tell a story of two continents united by family, heritage, and exceptional winemaking. The swallow has become deeply personal to founder Penny Streeter OBE – mirroring her own family’s journey between these two countries, with four small swallows representing her children who share this dual heritage.

Two World’s Best Vineyards, One Family Vision

In a remarkable achievement, both estates have earned recognition on the World’s Best Vineyards list – Benguela Cove in 2023 and 2024, and Leonardslee in 2025. Under the expert guidance of Cellar Master Johann Fourie, who oversees winemaking at both properties, these estates craft wines that capture the essence of their unique terroirs while maintaining a shared philosophy of minimal intervention and cool climate elegance.

At Benguela Cove, 2.7 kilometres of vineyards sit at just 3 meters above sea level, cooled by the Antarctic Benguela Current. This maritime influence creates wines of remarkable freshness and minerality – from the crisp Estate Sauvignon Blanc to the sophisticated Estate Pinot Noir and the flagship Catalina Sémillon.

Wine Clubs on Both Continents

For South Africa, the Benguela Cove Curated Subscription offers two distinct paths to savour our estate wines, both delivered quarterly: the Estate Seasonal Selection features 6 or 12 premium bottles hand-selected by Cellar Master, Johann Fourie from our Estate Collection. The Seasonal Discovery Wine Subscription offers a choice between a Cellar Master’s seasonal selection of 6 or 12 bottles that captures the essence of Walker Bay, or the flexibility to simply select a recurring delivery of your own favourite Benguela Cove wines at the quarterly interval.

Members enjoy complimentary delivery throughout South Africa, substantial savings on every delivery, free tastings for you and three guests, priority booking at Moody Lagoon Restaurant, and exclusive invitations to estate events.

For British Wine Lovers: Benguela Cove UK offers a wine club delivering these award-winning South African wines directly to your door throughout the United Kingdom.

Experience Both Worlds at Leonardslee Vineyards & Gardens

British visitors and South Africans travelling to the UK can experience the complete Benguela Cove range at Leonardslee Family Vineyards and Leonardslee Gardens in West Sussex. The historic estate, set within breathtaking gardens, offers not only the full portfolio of South African wines but also Leonardslee’s own English Sparkling Wines – a testament to Johann Fourie’s versatility and expertise across continents.

A Story Worth Following

The swallow – nature’s own trans-continental traveller – has become the symbol of this remarkable wine journey. For Penny Streeter and her family, these birds represent more than migration; they embody the connections that bind two countries together through love, family, and shared passion for exceptional wine.

Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely tasting by the lagoon, savouring a bottle from your Wine Club delivery at home in Johannesburg or London, or discovering these wines amid the romance of Leonardslee’s gardens, you’re experiencing something rare: wines that truly bridge two worlds, crafted by a family whose roots run deep in both.
