Air Mauritius lands in Cape Town

Air Mauritius

Non-stop flights from Mauritius to Cape Town returned on 16 November 2022 with a celebration at the Cape Town International Airport. This was the first time the carrier operated this route since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mauritius was the 8th largest country market for Cape Town pre-pandemic and is predominately an outbound tourism market with 68% of passengers originating in the Western Cape. The two-way passenger recovery for the MRU-CPT route in 2022 is 36% when compared to the same period in 2019, and this is mostly due to limited connections between the two destinations.

Historic air cargo trade volumes between Mauritius and the Western Cape totalled over 5 000 air metric tonnes in 2019, with the export volumes from the Western Cape making up 65% of the total trade volumes, making Mauritius an important regional trading partner for Cape Town and Western Cape exports which mainly include machinery and fresh foods.

Two weekly flights are scheduled with departure from Cape Town at 22:05 and arrival in Mauritius the next day at 05:10. The flights will be operated on an A330-900 NEO or A350-900 aircraft.
