Pretty Woman: The Musical – Opening at Artscape This March

Pretty Woman

South African theatre audiences are just days away from experiencing one of the most eagerly awaited stage productions of the year. Pretty Woman: The Musical makes its long-awaited local debut at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on 18 March 2026, before heading to Montecasino’s Teatro in Johannesburg from 24 April. Inspired by the beloved 1990 romantic comedy that captivated audiences worldwide, the stage adaptation promises an evening filled with romance, humour and dazzling theatrical spectacle.

A Timeless Story of Love and Transformation

The musical retells the unforgettable love story of Vivian Ward and Edward Lewis — two people from very different worlds whose chance encounter transforms both of their lives. Fans of the original film will recognise the heart and charm that made the story a global hit, while the stage version brings new energy through dynamic choreography, vibrant staging and glamorous costumes.

Bryan Adams Brings the Music and Magic

A major highlight of the production is its vibrant score, created by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Bryan Adams and longtime collaborator Jim Vallance. The music blends pop, rock and powerful ballads that capture the romance and humour of the story, alongside the legendary title song “Oh, Pretty Woman”.

A Global Musical Phenomenon Comes to South Africa

Since its Broadway premiere in 2018, Pretty Woman: The Musical has enjoyed successful runs in London’s West End and tours across North America and Europe. Its arrival in South Africa gives local audiences the chance to experience the internationally acclaimed production live on stage.

Local Talent Takes Centre Stage

The South African production proudly features an all-local cast, crew and band. Award-winning performer Leah Mari stars as Vivian Ward, while Christopher Jaftha takes on the role of Edward Lewis, supported by a talented ensemble of performers.

Behind the Spectacle

Produced by Showtime Management in association with Crossroads Live North America, the musical features a book by Garry Marshall and J. F. Lawton. Direction and choreography are by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell.

With its iconic love story, unforgettable music and glamorous staging, Pretty Woman: The Musical is set to be one of South Africa’s most talked-about theatre events of the year.
