Glasses Raised High as Cape Wine Auction 2026 Delivers R10.6 Million

Cape Wine Auction

The twelfth edition of the Cape Wine Auction once again showcased the remarkable power of generosity, fine wine and shared purpose, raising an impressive R10.6 million during a spectacular weekend hosted at Nederburg Wine Estate.

This achievement brings the total funds raised since the inaugural auction in 2014 to an extraordinary R152.8 million, firmly entrenching the Cape Wine Auction as one of South Africa’s most prestigious and impactful charitable events.

A shared belief in positive change

Reflecting on the success of the 2026 auction, Cape Wine Auction Trust chairman Paul Clüver emphasised the collective spirit that continues to drive the event forward.

“This twelfth edition of the Cape Wine Auction affirmed our belief that this is a unique oasis of hope and inspiration for the future of the Cape Winelands. We were deeply humbled by the extraordinary generosity of our donors and bidders, whose wholehearted support made this success possible.”

At its heart, the auction remains focused on supporting education and social upliftment initiatives in the Cape Winelands, giving added meaning to every bid placed.

A weekend of wine, music and celebration

The weekend unfolded as a seamless celebration of world-class wine, unforgettable entertainment and philanthropy. From the lively Saturday morning Barrel Auction to the highly anticipated main auction and post-event Celebration party, the atmosphere never waned.

According to Darielle Robertson, Director of The Cape Wine Auction, guests embraced every moment. Live performances by Mi Casa and Lloyiso had bidders and guests dancing well into the night, adding a festive energy to an already electric occasion.

The most sought-after auction lots

As always, the auction lots reflected a carefully curated mix of luxury travel, art and exclusive experiences. The headline lot of the evening was an Abu Dhabi Grand Prix VIP Experience, offering Paddock Club™ access to the Formula 1® Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026, pit lane walks, premium hospitality and luxury accommodation. Generously donated by Heineken Beverages, it sold for R1.3 million.

Art lovers competed fiercely for Anton Smit’s striking life-size bronze sculpture In Moment II, which fetched R650,000. Three luxury villa stays from The Hideaways Club, each offering seven nights in destinations across Asia, Europe or Africa, sold for R600,000 each.

Other highlights included the Côte du Cap Experience near Plettenberg Bay (R420,000), a luxury journey through Oregon’s Willamette Valley (R320,000), a Zambezi River escape at Thorntree River Lodge (R240,000) and the AdVini France Domaine Laroche Experience in Chablis (R230,000).

Nederburg at the heart of the occasion

As host and partner, Nederburg played a pivotal role in the event’s success. Nederburg General Manager Kate Jackson expressed pride in supporting the initiative, noting that the funds raised reflect both the passion of the wine community and a shared commitment to meaningful change.

Widely regarded as the most extraordinary international wine event hosted in South Africa, the Cape Wine Auction continues to unite wine lovers from around the world — proving that when excellence and generosity meet, the impact can be truly transformative.
