For nearly 60 years, Cape Town’s streets have echoed with more than just the sound of footsteps. They have carried a shared promise: that no child should try to learn on an empty stomach. The Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk, now in its 58th year, has become one of the city’s most enduring symbols of community compassion — and today, its future hangs in the balance.
More Than a Charity Event
Founded almost six decades ago, the walk brings together families, schools, businesses and community organisations in a collective stand against child hunger. It is affordable, inclusive and proudly intergenerational — a rare event where grandparents, parents and children walk side by side, united by purpose rather than competition.
At the heart of the event is the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), whose daily work ensures that more than 30 000 learners across the Western Cape receive nutritious meals every school day. For many children, these meals are essential to concentration, dignity and hope.
Why Sponsorship Matters Now
To deliver the walk safely, professionally and accessibly, PSFA requires R1.5 million in sponsorship funding. This support covers all operational costs — from logistics and safety to permits and infrastructure — ensuring that entry fees remain affordable and that every rand raised by walkers goes directly to feeding children.
Without urgent sponsorship, the 2026 walk may not take place. The loss would be deeply felt, not only by PSFA, but by the thousands of families, schools and community groups who have made Blisters for Bread an annual tradition — and by the children who benefit from the awareness and funding it generates.
A Proven Platform for Social Impact
Over the years, Blisters for Bread has grown into a trusted space for collaboration between civil society and the corporate sector. Sponsors gain meaningful brand visibility, staff engagement opportunities and alignment with a respected organisation addressing food insecurity where it matters most: in schools.
“Blisters for Bread has always been built on partnership,” says Brian Benatar, Chairman of PSFA. “Corporate support plays a critical role in helping us deliver a high-quality event while maximising the funds that go directly to our core feeding mission.”
Business, Community and Children
PSFA Director Petrina Pakoe echoes this sentiment, noting the long-standing commitment of many companies. Their involvement — through sponsorships, donations and activations — has kept the walk accessible while making a tangible difference in children’s lives.
At a time when food insecurity remains a pressing reality, Blisters for Bread stands as a reminder of what is possible when communities and businesses walk together.
How to Get Involved
PSFA is inviting corporate partners to help secure the future of the 2026 walk. Businesses interested in sponsorship or partnership opportunities can contact Charles Grey at 021 447 6020, 071 262 5199, or via email at [email protected]
Because sometimes, a simple walk can help carry a child — and a community — forward.
