Cape Town’s skyline is about to be transformed by one of the most prestigious names in global hospitality. Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings have officially announced the 2026 opening of The Cape Town EDITION, a milestone project that marks the brand’s highly anticipated debut on the African continent.
Set within the iconic V&A Waterfront, this “seven-star” development is more than just a hotel; it is a signal of Cape Town’s rising status as a premier global hub for luxury, design, and culture.
A New Benchmark for Luxury Hospitality
The Cape Town EDITION is designed to redefine the city’s hospitality landscape. Known for “redefining the codes of traditional luxury,” the EDITION brand focuses on taste-making design and authentic local character. The hotel will feature 142 guest rooms and suites, each meticulously crafted to offer a blend of modern elegance and the Mother City’s creative spirit.
“Cape Town is a city that embodies creativity, diversity, and a dynamic spirit—qualities that align perfectly with the brand’s ethos,” said Karim Cheltout, Senior Vice President of Development at Marriott International.
Global Vision Meets Local Character
The project brings together a formidable creative team. Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri & Hu—famed for their minimalist yet evocative designs—has been appointed to lead the vision in collaboration with local stalwarts StudioMAS.
The structure is engineered to provide breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the City Bowl, and Cape Town’s “Big Three”: Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill. This architectural landmark will serve as the anchor for the Waterfront’s Quay 7 precinct.
Project Timeline & Key Milestones
Official Announcement: December 2025
Construction Phase: Active throughout 2025
Anticipated Completion: Early 2026
Grand Opening: Scheduled for mid-2026
Location: Quay 7, Granger Bay Precinct, V&A Waterfront
More Than a Stay: A Lifestyle Destination
What truly sets the EDITION apart is its focus on curated social spaces. For the first time, Cape Town will host the brand’s signature world-class dining experiences, including a highly anticipated rooftop bar that promises to be the city’s new favourite sunset spot.
Beyond the hotel, the project introduces The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION. Comprising only six private residences, these homes will offer a level of exclusivity rarely seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Owners will enjoy “refined simplicity” combined with direct access to hotel amenities, including a sophisticated spa, swimming pool, and bespoke meeting facilities.
Revitalizing the Waterfront Promenade
This development isn’t just for residents and guests; it will breathe new life into the Granger Bay area. The plans include a newly developed public promenade along the water’s edge. This walkway will provide seamless access for locals and visitors to explore the area, linking the hotel to the Waterfront’s luxury retail brands and maritime attractions.
“We are witnessing growing tourism demand in the city,” noted V&A Waterfront CEO David Green. “The Cape Town EDITION will offer guests direct access to the world’s leading luxury experiences.”
