Notice is hereby given for a Water Use Licence Application (WULA) process in terms of Section 21 of NWA for water use activities associated with the farm development on Erf 782. The relevant licensing authority for the WULA process is the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).
The Applicant wishes to abstract water from a groundwater resource (borehole) and from surface water (the Berg River) for agricultural as well as landscape (minor) irrigation. The development comprises predominantly agricultural activities which includes a Wellness Farm and a multi-purpose sports field, as well as service infrastructure on an “island” located above the 1:100 year flood line (referred to as ‘South Island’). A Gentleman’s Estate Manor house will also be developed on the South Island. The Applicant therefore proposes to apply for Section 21(a) water use activity for the abstraction of groundwater from an existing borehole and from surface water for use for agriculture and landscape irrigation. Furthermore, water use activity Section 21(g) is also triggered for constructing a conservancy tank within 500 m of a wetland. Additionally, since the water uses will be within the 500m regulated zone of a wetland, a Section 21(c) and (i) water use activity will be triggered for the construction of service infrastructure, the Gentleman’s Estate and the conservancy tank. |
