Whether you are a surfer or a sunbather, the Western Cape is home to the perfect beach for you. South Africa’s Blue Flag beaches are on par with the best beaches in the world. Once again, the Western Cape is dominating the upper tier of the 2022/2023 season with 33 full-status beaches and five pilot beaches.

The iconic Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised voluntary eco-labels awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.

The programme is designed to raise environmental awareness and increase sound environmental practices among tourists, local populations and beach management.

Western Cape Beaches:  Camps Bay Beach, Clifton 4th Beach, Muizenberg Beach, Llandudno, Mnandi Beach, Fish Hoek (Cape Town), Melkbosstrand (West Coast), Bikini Beach (Gordon’s Bay), Herold’s Bay (George) De Bakke & Hartenbos (Mossel Bay), Grotto Beach (Hermanus), Struisbaai Beach (Cape Agulhas), Robberg & Natures’ Valley (Plettenberg Bay) and many more.
