Today’s technological advancements are changing expectations and increasing possibilities in education. Students are now not only looking for engagement through textbooks but through the plethora of devices that come with the era of digitisation.

The pace of change in education is faster than ever before and with this comes both opportunities and challenges for teachers.

Pearson South Africa is the world’s leading learning company that understands these challenges and last year launched MyPedia. The tool is a digital classroom that aims to transform education delivery in schools by integrating all learning and teaching tools in a well-designed and scientific manner.

It offers a complete teaching solution, designed to deliver engaging lessons by bringing technology into the classroom, resulting in more engagement and ultimately improved learner performance.

Last year the tool was pilot tested at seven schools located throughout the country, 21 teachers and 873 learners were involved in the pilot. Based on the feedback and usability of the solution there were changes implemented and it was launched officially in 2019, there are currently 10 000 users of the MyPedia solution. Through the success of the tool,

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has requested collaboration and implementation of the MyPedia tool in 20 of their schools, 10 high schools, and 10 primary schools.

“We want to make a difference to the lives of both student and teacher, whether that be in the classroom, at home doing homework assignments or prepping for the next module.”

“It is in the Department of Education’s strategy to introduce and implement digitalised classrooms to help students learn better, faster and more efficiently and for teachers to have free time to attend to students who presents difficulties in learning and this solution is designed to meet this need, says Dr Warren Moollan, Executive Director of Product Development at Pearson South Africa.

“Digitisation is transforming education today and students need to be prepared to enter the ever-evolving workforce. It is our priority to empower educators with the right tools to be able to teach effectively and at the same time, give them more time to engage with students and increase interaction,” says Charmaine Pietersen, Head: Curriculum Support, Metro South Education District in Western Cape.

“Both students, and teachers’ feedback has been positive, during the pilot stage students mentioned the app is different from any other learning apps and has allowed them to learn at their own pace,” concludes Dr Moollan.
